Dr. Shirey

Dr. Shirey was raised in Canton, Missouri and that’s where he discovered his love for animals and knew he wanted to be a veterinarian.  At the age of 15 he started working at a local vet clinic as a kennel assistant. After graduating from University of Missouri, he came back to his hometown and worked at this same vet practice as a Mixed Animal Veterinarian for 7 years.

In 2011, Dr. Shirey married his wife, Heather. In 2014, Dr. Shirey and his family felt a calling in Texas and decided to make the move to provide for his family but also other families and their pets.

In 2017, Dr. Shirey and partners Dr. James Morton and Dr. John Morton bought Starnes Animal Clinic to continue to serve and provide for the surrounding Tyler, TX area. In 2022, Starnes Animal Clinic became Rose City Animal Clinic, a busy 3-Doctor vet clinic in Tyler, TX, open 7 days a week.

Dr. Haley Boyd, a Tyler, TX vet at Rose City Animal Clinic

    Dr. Haley Boyd

Dr. Haley Boyd is an East Texas native who was raised in Hawkins, Texas. She currently lives on her family’s ranch, where they have 50 Beefmaster cattle and 70 chickens. Along with all the farm animals, she also has her fluffy and distinguished cat, Mozart Fluffy Boots the 3rd, and her energetic Miniature Australian Shepherd, Jett.

Growing up surrounded by rolling pastures and a close-knit small-town community instilled in Dr. Boyd a deep appreciation for family, service, and the special role animals play in our lives. Dr. Boyd didn’t always know she wanted to be a veterinarian, but after spending a summer volunteering at her local animal clinic, she knew this was the right path for her.

When she’s not serving local families and their pets, she loves board games and video games and often hosts game nights with family and friends. Dr. Boyd also enjoys being outdoors and can often be found lying on the porch swing with a good book or taking sunset strolls around the ranch, soaking in the beauty of country life.

After completing her veterinary studies at St. George’s University and her clinical year at the University of Tennessee, she settled in to make pets and their owners feel like family.

At home, Dr. Calhoun’s heart belongs to her own furry crew: her dogs Chewbacca, Bugs, and Sokka, and her cats Obi-Wan Kenobi, Momo, and Bumi—each named after beloved characters, reflecting her playful personality and love of storytelling. When she’s not caring for your pets, you’ll find her reading, gaming, traveling to new places, or enjoying quality time with friends.

Dr. Calhoun looks forward to welcoming your pets and treating them with the same love she gives her own.

“I take Daisy, my English Lab Mix, to Dr. Shirey for her routine shots, to board, and just recently an office visit when she wasn’t feeling good.

Dr. Shirey and his team take great pride in their job and genuinely care about the well being of Daisy. They go the extra mile and answer all of my questions and concerns in order to keep Daisy a healthy and happy dog. Also the rates for an office visit, vaccines and boarding are very reasonable.

A sincere thank you for all that you do.”
