How to Help Your Pet Ease Into Back to School Season

We’ve officially entered back to school season! Not only is this an overwhelming time for you and your children, but also your pets! Your four legged friends appreciate routine, and when that’s thrown off or changed, they might need a little bit more attention.

It’s common during this transition for you to notice in your pet separation anxiety, depression, or mood changes. Your pets need an adjustment period, too!

Try these tips during this back to school season to help your pets feel just as loved as your human children during this transition.

Give Them Plenty of Toys

It might seem obvious, but when your pets are given things to do, it will help them feel more comfortable, safe, and taken care of. We encourage you to change out the toys they have once a week so things stay exciting!

Schedule Time With Your Pets

Just like your human family members need dedicated time and attention, so do your furry ones! As your family develops a new schedule and routine, take this as an opportunity to build into your schedule time to get those walks, pets, and treats in!

For example, you could build parts of your routine around your pet. When your kids come home from school, take that as a que to get outside and play!

Prioritize Exercise

There’s nothing your pets love more than getting out and about. Whether it’s the zoomies or being playful in your house, your pets need movement. As you create your new routine, think about when the best time is for you and your pets to get outside. We believe the morning time is some of the most important time to be active with your pet. It tires them out and sets them up for a successful day, especially if they will be inside for a few hours while everyone else is at school or work.

Play Music or Sound During the Day

Pets find comfort in the sound of humans. Don’t forget that while you’re gearing up for everyone in the house to be gone all day! You can set sleep timers for the TV, music, or even ask your smart home device to play soft tunes or white noise for a certain period of time.

These tips might seem easy and simple, but they really do make a difference in the health and comfort of your pet while you’re away.
